Jane M. Zmyslowski, a lifelong Bayonne resident, entered into eternal rest peacefully on Monday, April 1, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.
Dedicating her life to education, Jane found immense joy in the growth and achievement of each of her students at the John M. Bailey Elementary School in Bayonne, where she proudly held an impressive 44-year career as an English teacher before her retirement in 2010.
A devout parishioner of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Jane's Christian faith was integral to her life, providing her guidance and support. With a natural gift of connecting with people, Jane was known for her pleasant and easy-going demeanor and could light up any room with her smile and laugh. She especially enjoyed conversing about life's simple pleasures and the memorable times spent at the Zmyslowski summer home in Bayville. Her exceptional cooking skills reflected her vibrant personality, especially during holiday gatherings, as she delighted in preparing her irresistible signature recipes and celebrating Polish traditions, filling the air with warmth and love. As an avid reader, nothing made her feel more content in her quiet time than relaxing at home with a good book.
Above all, Jane had a deep and undeniable love for her children, grandchildren, and husband, John, with whom she shared countless moments of happiness in their 55-year marriage. As a devoted and supportive wife, she never hesitated to assist her husband in his esteemed roles with the Veterans Association and the Vietnam Veterans of Bayonne.
Jane leaves a beautiful legacy that will forever resonate and comfort those privileged to have known her. She is survived by her husband, John; daughter, Karen Sugrue (Robert), son John Zmyslowski (Christina); her two grandchildren, Emma, and Julia Sugrue; sister-in-law, Dolores Macko; and her son-in-law's family, Robert and Rosemary Sugrue, and Joan Milasunas. She was the loving daughter of the late Anthony T. and Stella (Wisolmerski) Kobylinski, as well as the dear sister of the late Anthony Kobylinski Jr.
Visiting hours will be held at the Dworzanski & Son Funeral Home on Thursday, April 4, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. A funeral mass in Jane's honor will be offered on Friday, April 5, at 10:30 a.m. from the Parish of St. John Paul II at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, NJ.
Footprints in the Sand
One night I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord.
Many scenes from my life flashed across the sky.
In each scene I noticed footprints in the sand.
Sometimes there were two sets of footprints,
other times there were one set of footprints.
This bothered me because I noticed
that during the low periods of my life,
when I was suffering from
anguish, sorrow or defeat,
I could see only one set of footprints.
So I said to the Lord,
"You promised me Lord,
that if I followed you,
you would walk with me always.
But I have noticed that during
the most trying periods of my life
there have only been one
set of footprints in the sand.
Why, when I needed you most,
you have not been there for me?"
The Lord replied,
"The times when you have
seen only one set of footprints,
is when I carried you."
