After a life well lived, John J. Van Pelt, “Jack,” beloved husband, father, and grandfather, entered into eternal rest peacefully on January 20, 2026.
Born and raised in Jersey City, Jack later moved to Bayonne, where he built his life with his wife, Florence, a lifelong Bayonne resident. Together, they made their home there and raised their family, spending more than forty years as part of the Bayonne community. In later years, Jack and Florence moved permanently to their Culvers Lake home in Branchville, Sussex County, a place that brought Jack great peace and joy. Since 2024, Jack lived in Virginia with his wife, Florence, and their daughter, Sharon, where they were lovingly cared for.
Jack was a proud and patriotic veteran who honorably served his country in the United States Air Force. Following his military service, he devoted forty years to a successful career as a commercial banker, where he was a valued and respected employee known for his dedication, integrity, and strong work ethic.
Jack enjoyed life’s simple pleasures, especially reading novels, taking pride in his yard, and spending time on his boat at his Culvers Lake home.
Jack’s life reflected integrity, kindness, and humility, leaving behind a legacy of love and faith that will be carried on by all who knew him.
Left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife, Florence (Nee: Mocieko) Van Pelt; his daughter, Sharon Van Pelt; his son, Scott Van Pelt, and his wife, Carolyn; and his adored grandchildren, Diran Sarmientos Van Pelt and Taila Sarmientos Van Pelt, and Alex Van Pelt, Jillian Van Pelt, and Todd Van Pelt.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 12:00 pm on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at St. John Paul II Parish of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 39 East 22nd Street, Bayonne, NJ.
Remember Me
Remember me whenever you see a sunrise.
Remember me whenever you see a star.
Remember me whenever you see a rainbow,
or woods in Autumn colors from afar.
Remember me whenever you see roses,
or seagulls sailing high in a sky of blue.
Remember me whenever you see waves
shining in the sun. Remember me and
I’ll be remembering you!
Remember me whenever you see a
teardrop or meadows still wet with morning dew.
Remember me when you feel love growing in your
heart and remember I’ll be remembering you!
