Robert "Bob" Uzdavines Sr. Obituary

Robert M. Uzdavines Sr. entered into eternal rest peacefully at his Bayonne residence on Friday, February 13, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Bob later moved to Bayonne, where he built a beautiful life with his wife, Rita, sharing 54 wonderful years of marriage and raising their family, rooted in love and devotion. Bob was a valued employee of Greyhound Lines in New York City, serving as a terminal employee for 17 years before retiring in 1986.

A devout parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Bob’s faith in God remained a constant and guiding presence throughout his life. He faithfully served for many years as a Eucharistic Minister and was also an active member of the Holy Name Society, as well as a longtime member of the Mt. Carmel Lyceum.

In his youth, Bob spent many summers at Camp Crescent in New Hampshire and later served as a camp counselor. He attended Summit High School, where he excelled in basketball and displayed a natural ability on the court.  An avid sports fan, Bob found great joy cheering on the New York Mets and attending games at Shea Stadium, creating many fond memories over the years. He was also a loyal and enthusiastic follower of the Philadelphia Eagles.

Bob lived life with appreciation for its simple and meaningful pleasures. He enjoyed country music and admired artists such as Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings, but his true passion was the music of Elvis Presley. Bob embraced every song and found great joy, comfort, and inspiration in Elvis’s voice and spirit. One of the most treasured moments of his life was meeting Elvis on two occasions during a trip to Hawaii, where they shared pleasant conversation, a memory he carried with him always. He also fulfilled a lifelong dream by visiting Graceland, a place that held deep meaning for him. He proudly remained Elvis’s number one fan, collecting records, photos, and memorabilia throughout the years, and his love for Elvis was a special part of his life that brought him lasting happiness.

Bob treasured every moment with his family, who were his greatest joy. He found happiness in simply being together, whether at home or on the many trips and experiences they enjoyed over the years, including Florida, Hawaii, Canada, Las Vegas, the Caribbean, Europe, and Atlantic City. His grandchildren were the light of his life, and he was lovingly called Dziadzu and Papa Bob, names he carried with great pride.

Bob was predeceased by his parents, Michael and Genevieve (Graeber) Uzdavines; his father and mother-in-law, Walter and Mary Romelczyk Sr.; and his sister-in-law, Florence Romelczyk. Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife of 54 years, Rita (Romelczyk) Uzdavines; his daughter Maryann and her husband Paul Wilson; his son Robert M. Uzdavines Jr. and his wife Brooke; his sister Eileen Uzdavines and her husband Randall; his brother-in-law Walter Romelczyk Jr.; and his grandchildren Kaytlin and Rebecca Uzdavines, Maximus Sanford, Cameron Owen Wilson, Gavin Price, and Trevor Price, and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 18, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Dworzanski & Son Funeral Home.  A funeral Mass in Bob’s honor will be celebrated on Thursday, February 19, at 10:30 AM at St. John Paul II Parish (Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church), 39 East 22nd Street, Bayonne. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Chapel Mausoleum, North Arlington, New Jersey.

In Loving Memory of

    Robert M. Uzdavines Sr.

The Precious Gift

One gift, above all others

God gives to us to treasure

One that leaves no time, no place

      And one gold cannot measure.

     The precious, priceless, tender gift

      Of Memory… that will keep

Our dear ones ever in our hearts

      Although God gives them sleep.

It brings back long remembered things.

      A song, a word, a smile

      And our world’s a better place…

      because

      We had them for awhile.
